As Coastguards, we track down drugs and weapons, but also illegal fishery, immigration, and pollution. We search for and rescue people in an emergency. We check if rules are being followed. Our mission? To keep the water as safe as possible for everyone.

BOK TRAINING


During the Coastguard basic training (BOK) you intensively train yourself to become a junior crew member of a Metal Shark or Cutter; our fast and hi-tech ships. You and your fellow students come from Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, Sint Eustatius and int. Maarten.

Your course comprises nine months of lectures followed by two internships. What does your complete schedule look like?


  • Year 1: You follow the basic training (BOK) course that trains you from sailor to Able seaman.
  • Year 2 t/m 5: Successfully finished your BOK? You get a temporary position for six years.
  • Year 6 en 7: Want to continue? You get an elementary police training course to become a basic police officer on an MBO-3 level

Our fleet is the tool we use to ensure maritime safety. Our fleet is the biggest in the Caribbean, and you can already tell we are proud of it. Step into the world of Cutters, Metal Sharks, Dash 8’s and other advanced sailing and flying units.21
